Passenger cars are an ever diminishing share of vehicle sales, with SUVs continuing to dominate.

In 2025, plug-in hybrids really took off, while pure battery electric vehicle sales grew more slowly.
The proportion of vehicle sales that were electric is lower than the proportion of net motor vehicle fleet growth being electric due to ongoing deregistration of older diesel and petrol vehicles. Also, about a third of vehicles sales are not passenger vehicles, and the EV share of passenger vehicles was undoubtedly higher than the EV share of all vehicles.
